Laurie Scott was first elected as the MPP for Haliburton-Victoria-Brock on October 2, 2003.  Laurie was re-elected as the MPP for the newly named riding of Haliburton-Kawartha Lakes-Brock on October 10, 2007.  She is the Official Opposition Critic for two Ministries – The Ministry of Research & Innovation as well as the Ministry of Health Promotion.  Prior to this current role she has held the position of Critic for the Ministry of the Environment and Critic for the Ministry of Training, Colleges & Universities.

Growing up in rural Ontario Laurie spent much time on the family farm and experiencing the Great Outdoors. She attended public school in Kinmount and secondary school in Fenelon Falls. She furthered her education by earning her nursing diploma at Loyalist College in Belleville.

Laurie worked in the family grocery business while growing up and has also worked in the real estate business. From 2000 to 2003 she served as Executive Assistant to Senator Consiglio DiNino in Ottawa.

Prior to being elected Laurie was a Registered Nurse for over 20 years in locations such as the Toronto General Hospital as well as various international contracts. For twelve years she worked in the Intensive Care Unit at Ross Memorial Hospital. She continues to maintain her license as a Registered Nurse.

Laurie is a long-time director of the Kinmount Fair Board, and is a strong advocate for a number of local organizations and has also served on Doctor Recruitment Committees in the riding.

Laurie has a genuine and endearing passion for her riding and the people she serves as a member of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario. Her father served the same area as Member of Parliament for 28 years. Her family history in Haliburton-Kawartha Lakes-Brock area extends well back in to the 1850’s.
