McGUINTY LIBERALS LACK OF CONCERN FOR PUBLIC SAFETY
Outbreak at Central East Correctional Facility in Lindsay
(Queen’s Park, Toronto) The McGuinty Liberals continue to put public safety at risk through poorly responding to the concerns around the flu outbreak at the Central East Correctional Facility in Lindsay, now in its sixth day.
MPP Laurie Scott (Haliburton-Kawartha Lakes-Brock), along with PC Community Safety & Correctional Services Critic, Garfield Dunlop, questioned the Minister of Community Safety & Correctional Services about what measures are being taken to curb the spread of this outbreak and ensure the protection of the community.
“Inmate transfers into the facility are continuing to occur, exposing healthy people to a contagious virus,” said Scott. “The Minister should explain why accused persons are being denied their constitutional rights to have a bail hearing forthwith. I certainly hope that the Minister is not simply covering up this serious matter.”
“There’s no-one this Minister can blame but himself for his lack of concern on this issue so I hope that he’ll take this matter seriously and do his job and protect Ontarians,” said Dunlop. “The Minister seems to have a very difficult time understanding who is in charge of the jails and who is in charge of protecting the community.”
As a result of this outbreak there are safety risks not only for the inmates, but also the correctional officers, facility staff and the public at large.
“It’s time the Minister stood up and took action to protect the safety of the Ontario public,” added Dunlop.
