MPP LAURIE SCOTT RECOGNIZES
THE CANADIAN CANCER SOCIETY AND DAFFODIL MONTH DURING APRIL

(Queen’s Park, Toronto) Member of Provincial Parliament, Laurie Scott (Haliburton-Kawartha Lakes-Brock) who is also Opposition Critic for the Ministry of Health Promotion, is pleased to help promote the month of April as Daffodil Month, through the Canadian Cancer Society.

“The Canadian Cancer Society, including our local participating representatives in the City of Kawartha Lakes, Haliburton County, Durham and Peterborough continue to provide a caring, courageous and progressive commitment to the eradication of cancer and improving the quality of life for those with cancer,” said Scott. “Daffodil Month provides an opportunity for us to especially recognize those who have been touched by this disease as an inspiration and a reason to give this spring.”

Scott, who served as a Registered Nurse for over 20 years added, “We know that reducing the risk of cancer involves making healthy lifestyle choices and being proactive about screening as well as early detection.”

According to the Canadian Cancer Society, nearly half of all cancers are preventable through healthy living and policies that protect the health of Canadians, along with regular cancer screening.

“It’s clear that not only do we need to ensure we are making healthy lifestyle choices, we also are responsible for educating our children and young people about the importance of making those proper choices,” said Scott.

Haliburton Highlands and the City of Kawartha Lakes will both be hosting participants in this year’s “Relay for Life” on June 13th. Details can be found by visiting the society’s website at www.cancer.ca.

Scott also noted that one of her staff, Ms. Carrie Pearson, will be participating in the “Ride to Cure Cancer,” a two-day cycling ride of over 200 kilometers from Toronto to Niagara Falls on June 20-22.
