SCOTT:  PREMIER MUST ADDRESS JOB LOSSES
McGuinty policies driving jobs from Ontario

(Queen’s Park) Local Member of Provincial Parliament, Laurie Scott (Haliburton-Kawartha Lakes-Brock) is calling on the McGuinty government to immediately move jobs and employment to the top of its agenda.

Scott indicated she was disappointed to hear news that the General Motors Truck plant in Oshawa will lose nearly 1000 jobs due to a shift reduction starting in September of this year.

“This is very tough news for the employees at the Oshawa GM plant who are dedicated, talented and professional autoworkers,” said Scott.  “Many of these shift positions affected are filled by workers from communities in this riding.”

Scott alluded to the fact that in the past four years, Ontario has lost over 200,000 manufacturing jobs, including 25,000 last month alone.

“Dalton McGuinty’s high tax and big spending, along with heavy regulations are chasing good jobs out of our communities and out of Ontario,” added Scott.  “This recent announcement of impending layoffs for nearly 1,000 workers in the Oshawa truck plant must be a call for action and a proper plan.”

Ontario is ranked ninth out of tenth by all five major chartered banks in Canada in terms of economic growth.  A report issued this week from TD Bank Financial Group confirmed Ontario is turning into a “have-not” Province.

“Ontario needs a clear vision and a plan and for the economy because this government is simply sitting back and allowing our Province to fall into “Have-Not” status,” said Scott.
