Christmas and New Year’s Best Wishes from MPP Laurie Scott

With snow on the ground, and lights on the trees, carols playing in homes and on the radio, it’s nearly impossible not to get caught up in the tradition of the holiday season.

Christmas is a special time, to rekindle relationships, visit with family and friends, and attend holiday events.  The spirit of giving, the spirit of hope, are all part of making the New Year the best that it can be.

There is no doubt that rural Ontario is a special place to be at Christmas time.  As the MPP for Haliburton-Kawartha Lakes Brock, I have the wonderful opportunity to see young glowing faces as I join in Santa Claus parades, and attend the many Christmas events throughout the riding.

Despite the cold weather and slippery conditions, volunteers of all ages are doing their part in order to serve the needs of others and help spread the spirit of the holiday season.  The food banks and work of the Salvation Army, along with toy drives for needy children are only some examples of the selfless generosity that is displayed by our communities to those less fortunate.

In 2008, I know that we’ll continue to use that rural camaraderie to meet the challenges that lie before us, and celebrate our successes.

I encourage you, wherever possible, to visit the shops and restaurants of our local businesses as you shop or meet with family and friends.  Our entrepreneurs provide jobs, economic benefits and some of the best goods and services you’ll find anywhere in the province of Ontario.

It is inspiring to represent a riding filled with hardworking people and families who are dedicated to making our communities a better place to live and play.

I want to take this opportunity to thank you for the privilege of serving as your Member of Provincial Parliament and look forward to seeing and meeting with many of you throughout the year.

You are most welcome to attend my annual New Year’s Levee, on Sunday, January 6, 2008 at the Lindsay Inn on 354 Lindsay Street South from 2 – 4 pm.  Please consider bringing a non-perishable food item for donation to the local food banks.  Hope to see you there.

From my family to yours have a Merry Christmas, a safe and happy holiday, and a healthy and fulfilling 2008.
