APPLAUDS COMMUNITY FIGHT FOR FROST CENTRE
Pleased to See Efforts Create Positive Step to Re-Open Centre
(County of Haliburton, ON) Laurie Scott, MPP for Haliburton-Victoria-Brock,
today expressed her appreciation to all those involved in pressuring
the McGuinty Liberals to re-open the Leslie M. Frost Centre in Haliburton
County.
The Ministry of Public Infrastructure Renewal indicated in a news
release today that it has chosen the FCI Group as the preferred
proponent to operate the Frost Centre.
“I want to thank the Frost Centre Working Committee who put
together an extensive proposal of guidelines, under which the Frost
Centre should re-open,” said Scott. “The Perma-Frost
group was also instrumental and helped to draw much public attention
and obtained more than 10,000 signed petitions, which I presented
to the Legislature. They, along with myself and MPP Norm Miller,
have worked tirelessly in order to pressure the government to re-open
the Centre.”
“Our combined efforts have made the government realize how
important the Frost Centre is to this community and the thousands
of people who visited it every year before it was closed in July
of 2004.”
The Ministry has established a re-opening target for the Frost
Centre for June of 2007 and Scott says she will be the first person
they hear from should that date not be met.
“I am pleased the Ministry has indicated that the Frost Centre
is on track to re-open early next summer,” said Scott. “I
will continue to hold the government accountable on this matter
as I’m confident this will ultimately carry on the Frost Centre’s
tradition of environmental and outdoor education.”
