MPP LAURIE SCOTT WANTS LORD’S PRAYER IN ONTARIO LEGISLATURE
Priorities should respect traditions

(Haliburton, ON) Laurie Scott, MPP for Haliburton-Kawartha Lakes-Brock is urging Dalton McGuinty to respect the traditions of the Ontario Legislature by leaving the recitation of the Lord’s Prayer as part of its daily proceedings.

“Ontario is a province of deep cultural roots and it is important that we respect and maintain the traditions and history of the Ontario Legislature. Part of that tradition is keeping the Lord’s Prayer,” said Scott.  “The focus should be on building upon tradition rather than obscuring it.”

Scott made the comments following a letter issued yesterday by Dalton McGuinty calling for the province to ‘move beyond’ the recitation of the Lord’s Prayer in the Legislature. Scott also called on McGuinty to put his focus towards the important issues facing the people of Ontario.

“I have not heard one resident of Haliburton-Kawartha Lakes-Brock oppose the Lord’s Prayer,” added Scott.  “The people of this riding care more about making sure they have good paying jobs, a health care system that works, successful farms and small businesses,  and an education system that helps provide our kids with the skills and good start they need.”

Scott added an all-party committee should review a range of reforms for the operations of the Ontario Legislature, and any changes should respect the tradition and history of Ontario.

A petition to maintain the Lord’s Prayer is also available at Scott’s constituency office in Lindsay or her website at www.lauriescottmpp.com
