JUNE SENIORS’ SEMINARS HUGE SUCCESS
(City of Kawartha Lakes, Ontario) During the last week of June,
which is Seniors’ Month in Ontario, MPP Laurie Scott teamed
up with MP Barry Devolin to sponsor three seminars dedicated to
seniors.
“Our third annual seniors seminars were a huge success,”
said Scott. “Nearly 300 seniors joined our three events in
Lindsay, Beaverton and Haliburton to hear great presentations, visit
information booths and discuss matters ranging from safety and security
to financial planning.”
Seniors account for approximately 19 per cent of the population
of the riding of Haliburton-Victoria Brock which is significantly
higher the Ontario average of 13 per cent, according to Statistics
Canada.
“The Ontario population is aging,” added Scott. “Understanding
the valuable social role of seniors and providing opportunities
for the promoting of their health, well-being and safety will not
only guarantee them a better quality of life, but will help ensure
all of us can benefit from their knowledge and experience.”
“Our seminars wouldn’t be the same without the help
of so many local great organizations who continuously offer their
support, provide valuable information. and supply take-home gifts
for our seniors in attendance.” noted Scott. “I also
would like to thank Ms. Judy Muzzi, Past President of the United
Seniors Citizens of Ontario Inc, who once again offered so much
of her time and assistance in making our 2007 Seniors’ Seminars
such a great success.”
