MPP LAURIE SCOTT SUPPORTS PETERBOROUGH RAIL LINK
Calls on Liberal MPP’s to show support for important project
(Peterborough County, ON) MPP Laurie Scott (Haliburton-Kawartha Lakes-Brock) today praised the federal government’s initiatives of a rail link between Toronto and Peterborough.
“This is a huge step towards addressing the growing transportation needs in our area,” said Scott. “Our local Federal MP’s Dean Del Mastro and Barry Devolin understand that this is one of the fastest growing areas of Ontario and this rail link will do wonders towards reconnecting and redeveloping transit through our region.”
“This great news will not only provide convenient access to downtown Toronto for residents in the Kawartha Lakes, Peterborough and Haliburton County areas, the positive environmental impact is underlined by the fact that this commuter line will significantly reduce the number of vehicles on our roads each day by the hundreds.”
Scott and other Durham MPP’s are calling on Premier McGuinty and Peterborough MPP Jeff Leal to support the project. The Liberal government’s own Places to Grow Act identifies Peterborough and the Durham Region as rapid growth areas.
Scott added this announcement was not new news for the McGuinty Liberals, as Minister of Public Infrastructure Renewal David Caplan had been briefed on the proposed project last year by local MP Dean Del Mastro.
“It’s time that this Liberal government stop pointing their partisan fingers and do the job of governing for what’s best for the future of Ontario,” said Scott. “Getting on board and supporting this commuter rail from Peterborough to downtown Toronto is an important step for our local communities.”
