MPP SCOTT CALLS ON MCGUINTY FOR JOBS PLAN
AGAIN
Liberal Government continues to stonewall
(Queen’s Park, Toronto) Progressive Conservative MPP Laurie
Scott (Haliburton-Victoria-Brock) today said Dalton McGuinty continues
to stonewall and refuses to bring forward the Jobs Plan for Ontario’s
communities who have lost nearly 140,000 jobs under his watch.
Scott questioned the Minister of Economic Development and Trade
in the Legislature today about bringing forward a plan to address
job losses in areas such as Peterborough and cited several local
job losses including the closure of Masterbrand Cabinets, National
Grocers Service, and Transcontinental Best Book Printing.
“Dalton McGuinty has referred to these job losses as hiccups,
small contractions and one of your members had the gall to refer
to the small communities affected by the hard-hitting job losses
as crying babies,” said Scott. “When can communities
like Peterborough expect to see the comprehensive jobs plan that
members from all parties supported in this house over 16 months
ago?”
In December of 2005, all parties supported a motion that called
for the Government to bring forward a comprehensive jobs plan to
address the ongoing losses of jobs in the province. McGuinty has
yet to act on that despite his campaign promise of honouring the
requests of the members of the legislature.
“Communities such as Peterborough and rural towns throughout
Ontario are in desperate need of a plan to address the ongoing job
losses resulting from Dalton McGuinty’s taxes, regulatory
burdens and wasteful spending of taxpayer’s money,”
said Scott.
