DALTON MCGUINTY TRIES TO ESCAPE ACCOUNTABILITY
Calling for legislative session to end three weeks early to avoid questions

(Lindsay, Ontario) With the spring legislative session not due to end until June 28th, Dalton McGuinty and the provincial Liberals have indicated that they will be adjourning the spring session next week – three weeks ahead of schedule.

“This is clearly an escape attempt by Dalton McGuinty who is running and hiding from having to answer questions about his broken promises, and turning his back on the environment,” said Laurie Scott, MPP (Haliburton-Victoria-Brock) and PC Critic for the Ministry of the Environment. “McGuinty and his Minister of the Environment have said they will release their plan to deal with climate change on June 11th and have now cowardly set themselves up so they won’t have to face legitimate questions on that proposed plan in the legislature.”

“Four years into his mandate he still hasn’t presented his promised plan on climate change. Dalton McGuinty promised back in 2003 that he would close the coal generating plants,” added Scott. “He has repeatedly broken that promise and as a result Ontario has missed the opportunity to be much further along in reducing emissions and cutting greenhouse gasses.”

“There is no reason for the legislature to break prior to the scheduled date of June 28, except for Dalton McGuinty and his Minister of the Environment, who are doing what they can to avoid questions and spew their ongoing rhetoric and broken promises on the environment,” said Scott.

“Dalton McGuinty should show real leadership instead of ducking and dodging; he should finally do something about climate change and commit to presenting his plan to the legislature.”
