Laurie Scott Supports Liberal Private Member’s Bill
(Queen’s
Park) – Laurie Scott, M.P.P. for Haliburton-Victoria-Brock
spoke in favour yesterday of a private member’s bill which
calls on the government to include insulin pumps and their supplies
to be covered under the Health Insurance Act.
Mr. Gravelle
the liberal M.P.P. from Thunder-Bay Superior North proposed the
legislation in the house. Laurie spoke on behalf of the Progressive
Conservative caucus,
in support of Bill 55. She said, “Over 850,000 Ontarians suffer
with diabetes. This bill will directly help thousands of them and
I an happy to lend my support today.”
Several constituents
had written to Laurie expressing their support for Bill 55 and Anne
Rink of the Canadian Diabetes Association’s Lindsay office
had met with Laurie to express their concerns.
Laurie concluded
her remarks in the legislature by saying, “All of us in this
legislature should support this wonderful bill and together we can
do something important to relieve these peoples burden and to create
something lasting for future Ontarians.”
