Perma-Frost Presents Letter to the Premier
Laurie
Scott today sponsored a press conference by Perma-Frost, a group
lobbying to save the Frost Centre, and has added her name to the
letter they are presenting today to the Premier.
The
Perma-Frost group has worked tirelessly since the decision to close
the Frost Centre was announced.
They have helped to galvanize public support for their efforts
to keep the Leslie M. Frost Resource Centre open.
Today’s letter to the Premier follows successful rallies
held at Queen’s Park, in Haliburton County and at the Frost Centre.
There are now more than 10,000 people who have signed petitions
to keep the Centre open.
“The
Perma-Frost volunteers have spent hundreds of hours trying to make
sure that people across the province know about the McGuinty government
decision to close the Centre,” said Laurie Scott.
“The individuals and groups who added their voices to the
call to save the Frost Centre represent a broad cross section of
Ontarians who are very disturbed about the closure.”
The
closure will have a tremendous impact on the local tourism industry
and business operators. The Haliburton area has one of the lowest
average household incomes in the province. Taking away one of the
region’s premier tourist destinations will have serious repercussions
for the Haliburton economy.
“It
is my hope that the government listens to the message it is being
sent today,” said Laurie. “The
future of the Frost Centre is in Dalton McGuinty’s hands, and whatever
solution he arrives at should allow for the continuation of the
important outdoor education and stewardship programs the Frost has
become famous for.”
