Still Fighting For the Frost Centre
Laurie Scott keeps pressure on McGuinty Liberals
Although the Frost Centre
doors have closed, Laurie Scott is continuing the fight to save
the important programming that the centre has delivered to our community
and others across the province. The Frost Centre has also been a
significant contributor to the local economy.
Responsibility for the
Frost property has changed hands from the Ministry of Natural Resources
to the Management Board of Cabinet. “My focus in the days
since the closure has been to make sure that Gerry Phillips, is
willing to come to the table to discuss options for reopening the
Frost Centre,” Laurie Scott said. “I have been working
hard to arrange a meeting between the government ministers and local
municipal officials.”
The Frost Centre programs
have been cancelled, but there is still time to reach a solution
that will allow the programs to start up again as soon as possible.
Hopefully the government will recognize the value of these programs,
and work towards a solution so that the Frost Centre will be able
to continue it’s longstanding tradition of excellence in the
delivery of stewardship and outdoor education programming.
“There has been
a very clear message sent that the government made a mistake closing
the centre,” Laurie said. “I have received over 7,500
names on a petition to Save the Frost Centre. When you combine that
with the people who have signed the Experience Haliburton petition
and the names collected by MPP Norm Miller that puts the total number
of signatures at well over 10,000.”
