‘Fund the Brock CHC’
Laurie Scott supports funding for the Brock Community Health Centre

Laurie Scott welcomed local residents Joanne Lloyd, Janet Vendrig and Councillor Larry O'Connor as they brought forward a petition on behalf of local residents asking the government to fund the Brock Community Health Centre. In a statement to the legislature yesterday, Laurie added her voice to those supporting the effort to obtain funding for the Brock Community Health Centre.

“I have heard many positive signals from the Ministry and the Minister” said Laurie Scott, “but what the community really needs is for the money to start flowing for this project.”

The Brock CHC proposal was submitted in February of 2003 to the Minister of Health, and has the support of the Durham, Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge District Health Council.

Brock Township has been declared an underserviced area by the Ministry of Health with respect to physician services since 1996, and it does not have a hospital. A Community Health Centre is vital so that the residents can have access to health services taken for granted in other parts of the province. A CHC in Brock Township could provide a range of community-based health and social services provided by a multidisciplinary team including physicians, nurse practitioners, nutritionists, health promotion coordinators, social workers, counsellors and other health professionals.

Laurie Scott said “I am going to continue to bring this to the attention of the Minister and the government until the money starts to flow.”
