MPP SCOTT RESPONDS TO DISAPPOINTING ANNOUNCEMENT OF FURTHER MANUFACTURING JOB LOSSES
(Lindsay, Ontario) Approximately 80 employees of Promans Canada Inc. (formerly Bonar Plastics Corp.) in Lindsay have learned that they will be phased out of work as the manufacturing facility announced it will be shutting down its Lindsay plant.
“This is the second major manufacturing facility closure in the City of Kawartha Lakes in the past six months” said Scott. “Along with those who are directly affected, the ripple effect is felt throughout the community and impacts other local businesses.”
Scott contacted the management office of Promans Canada Inc. this morning and immediately met with senior management at the facility to discuss options and assistance for employees. Along with setting up this meeting, Scott has also called the Minister’s office of Economic Development and Trade as well as the Minister’s office of Training, Colleges and Universities to ensure that both Ministries are aware and engaged in the situation.
“It is important that these employees and their families know that we will work with the resources available to help provide a viable reason for these people to remain in our community,” said Scott.
Scott also pointed to the fact that over 143,000 manufacturing jobs have been lost throughout the province since 2005. “Along with the increase in the value of the Canadian dollar, manufacturers and businesses in rural communities such as Lindsay are in a constant struggle trying to deal with rising energy costs, ever-increasing taxes and ongoing regulatory burdens,” added Scott.
