Remembrance Day, November 11th
On Sunday, November 11th, Veterans’ Week will conclude with Remembrance Day. Together as a Province and as a Nation we will be commemorating the courageous Canadians who died defending the peace, freedom and liberty we experience every day.
Remembrance Day is an opportunity for Canadians to pay tribute to those men and women who gave so much to our country in the past, and who continue to uphold Canada’s reputation as a peace serving, opportunity building nation both here and abroad.
As the MPP for Haliburton-Kawartha Lakes-Brock, I am pleased to be asked to take part in a number of ceremonies and events throughout the riding for Remembrance Day. It is truly a privilege to be able to join with so many other local Canadians to pay our respects and gratitude to those who have gone before us.
We should take ever opportunity to thank our veterans and acknowledge them for the freedoms and opportunities, which they fought so hard to preserve.
Veterans truly represent our living heritage and deserve our profound appreciation for the sacrifices they have made. Many have died to protect us. Our brave military woman and men continue to exemplify the very spirit of Canada and Ontario. Each and every single one of them has a story to be told.
Throughout our nation, many Canadians will observe two minutes of silence on Remembrance Day. Silence often speaks volumes more than we could imagine. The Red Poppy, which we wear in Remembrance leading up to November 11th, symbolizes eternal sleep. As Canadians it is our duty to ensure that those who fought selflessly for our freedom forever rest in peace.
Veterans Affairs Canada has made the theme for Remembrance Week, “Lest We Forget.” On November 11th, let’s all take a moment and silently acknowledge the contributions made by our dedicated veterans, to whom we are forever indebted.
I encourage you to touch base with your local Legion, make sure you wear a poppy, and attend a Remembrance Day ceremony if you’re able.
We must never forget.
