Laurie Scott and OBA Team Up for Town Hall on Justice Issues
Public and Legal Community Asked for Advice
on Improving Ontario’s Justice System
LINDSAY– The Ontario Bar Association (OBA) is continuing
its province-wide Town Hall initiative aimed at finding ways to
better resource the Ontario justice system in Lindsay on November
8th with local MPP Laurie Scott and Lindsay lawyer and OBA member
Drew Gunsolus. The Town Hall Meeting is taking place on November
8th from 7-9 PM in the Royal Canadian Legion located at 12 York
St North in Lindsay. The theme for the meeting is “Justice
in Ontario: Getting it Right”.
“Our riding of Haliburton-Victoria-Brock is changing and
our justice system needs to keep pace ensuring that the police and
courts have the resources they need to keep our streets safe,”
said Scott. “Working families and seniors choose to live in
this community because of the sense of safety it provides, that
is something we simply cannot afford to lose.”
Topics that will be discussed at the Town Hall Meeting include:
• What is needed to ensure fair and timely access to the
justice/legal system for all Ontarians?
• What improvements or changes should be made to our justice
system, locally and province-wide?
• Does our community have adequate resources to meet the needs
of our citizens?
Co-Chairing the Town Hall Meeting on behalf of the OBA will be
Lindsay lawyer Drew Gunsolus.
“The demands and expectations of the legal system in Ontario
are always changing,” said Mr. Gunsolus. “This Town
Hall Meeting will help the OBA with future recommendations to MPPs
and to the Attorney General on behalf of all Ontarians.”
The Town Hall Meeting is open to all members of the public and
to the legal community in Lindsay and surrounding communities. Those
planning on attending are asked to RSVP to Laurie Scott at 1-800-424-2490
or OBA staff contact Jonathan Clancy at 1-800-668-8900 ext 348.
Participants are encouraged to make a written submission to accompany
comments they make at the Town Hall Meeting.
The OBA is the voice of the legal profession in Ontario. As a branch
of the Canadian Bar Association, the OBA represents 17,000 lawyers,
judges, law professors and law students across the province.
