Jobs and the Economy

Our province was once Canada’s economic engine, but we are falling behind.

A Look at the Numbers: Only 23% of businesses are confident in Ontario’s economy

On February 7th, the Ontario Chamber of Commerce released its report on the state of the Ontario economy. It highlighted four major problems that are affecting our province:

  • Skyrocketing hydro rates
  • Suffocating red tape
  • Ridiculously high taxes and fees
  • Businesses losing confidence in the Ontario economy because of government policies

Our province was once Canada’s economic engine, but we are falling behind.

Small businesses are the backbone of Ontario’s economy, but small business owners in our area tell me that they are losing revenue and are being forced to lay off staff, and even close up shop.

We also face a lack of skills training that would help people in our communities prepare to take on the jobs that are available now, and that will be needed in the future.

I will continue to call for better policies and investments to improve the economy in our area.
